REFLECTIONS ON TED AND "THE REDFERN CHURCH"

After several years in the Redfern congregation: I have four main impressions

The atmosphere of acceptance - acceptance of everyone, and an accepting attitude to behaviour that would cause indrawn breaths, shocked faces, and swift expulsion in most churches.

The release of the mass to its fundamentals.

Readings of the Gospels that often turned on their heads the interpretations usually mouthed. There was no feeling that one could have written it oneself from memory.

And finally Ted himself. To speak of “Ted’s ego” is an oxymoron. Strength and conviction, yes, but for one who has much to be proud of, there is no feeling of self-pride.

Ted, we love you. Thank you for the gift of the community at Redfern.
