I have been coming to mass at St Vincent’s, Redfern for over twenty years because I have chosen to do so. The community that Father Ted has fostered over the years is an unusual community in that many of us who attend come from far and near. I come from somewhere between. It is a vibrant caring community that has many causes – the poor, the indigenous people, and peace, to name a few, yet there is a place for individual needs and the opportunities to express them. The sermons have been challenging but at least there is food for thought if not action. On occasions when I have been to mass elsewhere I get more convinced that St Vincent’s, Redfern is where I feel most at home.
