Thanks
for the many years of friendship, encouragement and
challenge!
Your
intuitive resonance with those spun to the margins,
your insightful critique of society with the church
in special focus, your insistent listening to those
robbed of an effective voice, your sense of the radical
fire of the gospel calling all to account from the vantage
point of the poor of the earth, your compassion for
those in pain, your capacity to name and affirm the
vibrant humanity of those excluded in any way, and your
spirit of hospitality: all these have touched my life
profoundly.
Thanks
for your delight in literature and art and in the inherent
wisdom of culture especially Indigenous cultures; for
your graciousness of table, room and time; for your
sense of gospel perspective on our often stumbling efforts
to build an inclusive community mindful of the good
and life-giving earth; for the treasured times of sparkling
humour!
In
earlier days there were turbulent times at Redfern with
the house and part of the old school full to overflowing
with people with no home and no safe place. In later
days, apart from the occasional visit, it's been more
a matter of short focused phone calls, unexpected as
summer showers but equally delightful and refreshing!
Ted,
throughout these many years, you have been for me a
singularly credible person of Christian faith and viable
humanity; from you I have drawn courage and perseverance,
vision and spirituality, and hope.
Thanks
for the many years of friendship!
